Dr. John Gottman found that couples who were in a group that would soon divorce where different from those happy couples who would stay married.
One measure was the ratio of positive interactions to negtative interactions. Divorcing couples averaged only 0.8 positive interaction for every 1.0 negative interaction. Happy staying married couples averaged 5 positive interactons for every 1 negative interaction. Therefore the positive to negative ration differed from 0.8/1 to 5/1.
I will emphasize getting your ratio up so that you enter the positive sentiment override phenomenon. This changes everything.
